Prof. Dr. Reinhard Hickel obtained his dental degree in 1980 and his PhD from the University of Erlangen in 1988. Since 1992 he is the head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry, Periodontology and Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Munich. Since 2013 he is also member of the board of the University Hospital. 2015-2022 he was appointed as Dean of the Medical Faculty University of Munich.
He was elected in different associations as president (1996-2000 President of the German Society of Conservative Dentistry; 2001 – 2003 President of the European Federation for Conservative Dentistry; 2006 – 2008 President of the German Association for Dental Education; 2008-2010 President of the IADR-CED (cont. European Division); 2010-2012 President of the European Academy of Operative Dentistry.
He received several awards (2010 Golden medal of honor of German Association for Dental-Oral-Maxillo-facial Medicine (DGZMK); 2012 Hollenback Award of Academy of Operative Dentistry Chicago/USA; 2013 Ryge-Mahler-Award of IADR Dental Materials Group for clinical research Seattle/USA); 2015 Award of Excellence – European Academy of Operative Dentistry; 2019 Award of Excellence – European Federation of Conservative Dentistry; 2021 Golden medal of honour German Dental Association).
Prof. Hickel is in the Editorial Board of several international journals. He has published over 500 research papers/books/articles (citations > 18.000, H-index 82). His expertise is in dental materials, diagnostic systems and controlled clinical studies.
